This year marks the 20th competition since the I-1 Grand Prix began in 2006. That first year saw participation by 10 countries and regions in the Asia/Oceania region, with 10 teams and 30 individuals. The number of participating teams has continued to grow each year. This year, we are expecting 38 teams from 38 countries and regions, with 114 individuals participating in the event.
Many regions also hold regional or preliminary competitions, where contestants can hone their skills, and in May this year the LCV competition was held for the first time in 6 years. I am truly encouraged by this long history and the widespread reach of the I-1GP throughout the Isuzu family, and I know that all concerned agree that this competition makes a major contribution to our technicians’ skills. We are of course very proud that as a result, we have been able to make a huge contribution to our customers’ “transport”.
This year’s number 20 is a number that we have all added up together. On behalf of the Secretariat, I would like to express our gratitude to everyone who has carried forward the pioneering spirit of continuously improving their technical skills, and to those who have continued to support us enthusiastically in making this competition a success.
The slogan for last year’s competition was “Engage Today, Build the Future”, symbolizing the sincere engagement of each and every member of the Isuzu Group in their daily work as they build Isuzu’s future. Looking back at 19 years of history, and now the fact that we are able to hold the competition again this year, I see how past competitions have led toward this one, and we feel the responsibility for passing the torch to future I-1GP events. The connections made with everyone from the start of the I-1GP onward have supported us, and help ensure its continued expansion.
The slogan for the 20th competition is “We are ONE”. This encompasses the meanings of moving forward (Onward), while confirming our connections (Nexus) and having pride and excellence in all our work (Excellence), moving as one with everyone around the world who supports “transport” toward the future.
The “O” in the poster’s background is a circle that represents the seamless connection from the past to the future, and the members of the Isuzu Group unified as one. Personally, I also see it as the zero in “20” of this 20-year milestone. To me, this zero also affirms Isuzu’s unending role in supporting our customers’ transport in the future. This is, of course, just a personal interpretation.
The 2025 competition continues, as always, to be an opportunity for improving technical skills, but I also would like to think of it as a turning point toward the next steps for the I-1GP.
We’ll be posting lots of messages on the website and in the venue, so please check regularly for news.
I’m looking forward to seeing you all in Yokohama.
